Montreal Studios
Fonderie Darling is home to twelve creative studios spread over three floors of a carefully converted 19th-century industrial building. Eight of our studio spaces are dedicated to Montreal visual artists as part of the Montreal Studios residency program, which offers professional working conditions in a stimulating environment. This unique program allows artists to occupy a studio for a period of three years and access several specialized technical workshops (wood, metal, ceramics, and CNC), enabling them to develop their projects under optimal production conditions and explore new skills.
By joining Fonderie Darling, artists in the Montreal Studios commit to using their studios regularly and actively participating in the collective life of the space, in a spirit of exchange with international artists in residence and participation in the organization's activities. This desire for cohabitation creates a lively and open ecosystem, conducive to collaboration and mutual enrichment of practices.
The Montreal Studios offers artists access to spacious and comfortable workspaces at affordable prices in the heart of Montreal. Since 2006, the Sponsorship Program has occasionally provided certain artists with additional support to cover studio costs and include a production grant. Although not guaranteed, this program, which promotes a special relationship between the artist and a patron, whether an institution, a collection, or an individual, occasionally complements the offerings of The Montreal Studios.
At Fonderie Darling, each artist contributes to a community grounded in exchange, experimentation, and generosity. Without diminishing the individuality of each artistic practice, the collective life of the space promotes the circulation of ideas, skills, and imaginaries, nurturing an environment where creation is shared as much as it is developed.
Being located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building without a freight elevator, we regret that the current studios do not meet accessibility standards for people with disabilities. We remain available to answer any questions regarding the accessibility of our spaces.
