Stina Baudin
Working through abstraction, Stina Baudin uses mixed-media processes that intertwine data, sound, text, archival materials, and oral histories to articulate Black life and its contested histories. Her practice draws on traditional African and Haitian textile techniques, interlaced with systemic strategies and literary references, to evoke past realities, real or imagined, silenced by the archives. In doing so, Baudin gives form to the many bodies of knowledge that flow through geography, ritual, ancestry, and time, layering a wide range of approaches including metalwork, printmaking, sculpture, and coded technologies. Her work crafts an iconography by assembling fragmented narratives into material expressions that move between fact and fiction, truth and myth, to shed light on the experiences and identity issues faced by Black people and the African diaspora.
Biography
Stina Baudin (she) is a Haitian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist. She studied at Concordia University (2012) and The Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels (2019). She is a 2025 MFA graduate from Cranbrook Academy of Art, as well as a recipient of the Gilbert Foundation Scholarship and the Maxwell/ Hanrahan Foundation Materials Award (US). She has participated in residencies at ZK/U Berlin, the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity (CA), and Pocoapoco (MX). Her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Holon Berlin and Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
