Alegría Gobeil
Alegría Gobeil works with behaviours deemed self-destructive, pathological, contagious and collective, investigating how they are produced, regulated, and made legible through institutional structures. Working across installation, intervention, and performance/protocols, Gobeil transforms exhibition spaces into sites of interrogation that alter the discourses inherent in institutional structures. Their contextual and indisciplinary practice investigates how these discourses shape lives, render them legible, and determine the conditions of their emergence.
Their work mobilizes pre-existing forms—gestures, narratives, documents—as spaces within which to bring forth a counter-anamnesis. Their approach positions the body–alive, even if not-living-well–as a shifting archive, shaped by regimes of knowledge production.
Biography
Alegría Gobeil (A) holds a Bachelor's and a Master's in Visual and Media Arts, with honours, from Université du Québec à Montréal – UQAM (2019 and 2022). Gobeil has participated in residencies at Est-Nord-Est (Saint-Jean-Port-Joli), LA SERRE (Montréal), as well as an upcoming residency at Artexte. Their work has been presented in spaces for visual arts, live arts, and literature in Québec, Ontario, New York, Berlin, and soon Paris.
