Frantz Patrick Henry

Patrick F. Henry's work is driven by a desire to understand the materials that serve as interlocutors, informing him about the world, himself and his technical and conceptual capabilities. He uses lyrical form in both sculpture and painting to access a state of consciousness and capture the changes taking place within himself. The construction materials used to rebuild anything that crumbles are used as a metaphor for a state of becoming.

Iconographically, Patrick F. Henry reinterprets certain mythical and social stories by hybridizing his own history with that of the protagonists. He often uses excessive colouring, zooming, cropping and changes of scale to integrate these stories into a personal mythology. Everyday objects are often appropriated and diverted from their original function. The works thus take the form of a site, inviting viewers to approach the work from a geographical and social angle. With this technical and conceptual background, Patrick Henry uses sculpture and painting to pursue the reinvention and relationship of paradoxical conditions that enable permanence and renewal of being.
