[PRESS RELEASE] STÉPHANE MARTELLY APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MONTREAL, TUESDAY JULY 23 2024 – Quartier Éphémère announces the appointment of Stéphane Martelly as President of its Board of Directors. With her recognized expertise in culture and the arts, the artist, writer, and researcher specializing in research-creation and contemporary Caribbean literature will provide guidance, benevolence, and deep commitment to our organization.

The team is thrilled to work under the new governance of Stéphane Martelly and remains dedicated to promoting artistic innovation and Montreal's cultural diversity.

ABOUT STEPHANE MARTELLY

Through a profoundly transdisciplinary approach, Stéphane Martelly has published numerous works, essays, poetry, and other fables, notably the book La maman qui s'absentait (Vents d'ailleurs, 2011), co-authored with Albin Christen, which received the Prix littéraire Michel Tournier. Her main essay, Les jeux du dissemblable (Nota Bene, 2026), explores creative thinking through contemporary Haitian literature. Her latest fable Comme un trait/ Le fil d’or et d’argent (livre d’artiste, 2022) gave rise to the multidisciplinary research-creation project Tresser la ligne. Her transdisciplinary work in literature and painting delves into the shadows and the boundaries of representation and interpretation.

In 2021, the Collection Martiales was launched under her direction, publishing essays to promote the voice of emerging Black women writers at édition remue-ménage. At the same time, Stéphane Martelly is an associate professor of research-creation and Caribbean literature in the Department of Arts, Languages and Literatures at the Université de Sherbrooke, and co-director of VersUS, a transcultural laboratory.

Born in Port-au-Prince in Haiti, Stéphane Martelly has lived and worked in Montreal since 2002.
