Birender Yadav

Birender Yadav's work reflects his personal experiences and memories of growing up in a world of coal miners, labourers and other rural workers. By way of a multidisciplinary practice, Yadav questions identity, representation, the politics of class difference, forms of labour and making, as well as issues of oppression and domination of the working classes.

"I was born in Ballia district, in a predominantly rural province of Uttar Pradesh, India. I come from a family of coal miners. My father was working as a blacksmith at the coal mines of our province. I was the first to step out from my family and pursue formal higher education. I first did my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, graduating in 2013. After this I qualified for a Master in Fine Arts (specialisation: Painting) from the College of Arts, New Delhi in 2015." Birender Yadav
