
Risa Hatayama
Risa Hatayama is a Montreal based Japanese visual artist who has formal training encompasses photography as well as film and video production. Drawing her inspiration from surrealist and existentialist literature, the artist uses video, photography and installation to develop imaginary narrations that explore the fundamental themes of love, time and memory. Usually presented as installations, her work encourages the viewer's physical interaction with the contextual space and an intimate encounter with her artwork. In 2006, she exhibited the installation project Drift in collaboration with Mathieu Bouchard.
Biography
Originally from Japan, Risa Hatayama has lived in Canada since 1997. After studying Film/Video Production at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, she moved and started working in Montreal. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Concordia University in 2005. Her works have been presented in Canada, France, Czech Republic and Japan. She did a France-Quebec Exchange Residencies with Quartier éphémère at Point éphémère, Paris from July to September 2009.
