Baptiste Eybert
During his residency at Fonderie Darling, Baptiste Eybert hopes to further explore a textile language imbued with dreams, tensions, and buried memories. Working with worn clothing, salvaged fabrics, and hybrid materials, he composes forms that float between the familiar and the spectral: interrupted silhouettes, fragments of bodies, visions from a distorted interior space.
In Montreal, he intends to continue his research by approaching textiles as a field for physical and intuitive experiments: tearing, sewing, constraining, and allowing presences to emerge that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. He is particularly interested in the construction of enclosed spaces traversed by psychic projections and the unsettling effect they can have on the viewer.
In his practice, recycling is never neutral: it becomes a gesture of rewriting and drifting, allowing him to hybridize temporalities and create unstable spaces made of vestiges and apparitions. The residency will allow him to expand this research, notably by testing new textile construction techniques and exploring, on an ad hoc basis, metal casting and ceramics, to shift his forms towards other textures and other states of presence.
Biography
Baptiste Eybert is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Montpellier. Born and raised in Paris, he graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier with a DNSEP degree in 2020. Before devoting himself fully to the visual arts, he spent several years working in the fashion industry as a couturier, artistic director, and stylist, an experience that has had a lasting impact on his approach to textiles.
Today, his practice involves collages, sculptures, and assemblages made from recycled clothing and fabrics. His works are at the crossroads of surrealism, material memory, and the intimate imagination: recycled materials become sensitive archives that allow him to explore the unconscious and weave hybrid narratives between cultures, bodies, and symbols.
Baptiste has participated in numerous group exhibitions in France and has worked as an assistant to several renowned artists, which has enriched his relationship with materials and sculptural construction. As the winner of his first international residency at the Darling Foundry in 2025–2026, he will take advantage of his stay in Montreal to develop new textile and three-dimensional experiments, while preparing for his first solo show, to be presented at Kiasma/Castelnau in the summer of 2026.
