Tom Jacques
Tom Jacques' artirstic approach evolves between composition, improvisation, interpretation and the design of sound devices. Living in the Lower Saint-Lawrence region he works mainly in contemporary and jazz music. His projects are rooted in a variety of practices, including music, sound installation, lutherie, digital art, craft and visual arts. The fabrication of new devices is at the center of his compositional approach, guiding him towards multiple musical directions without constraining him to the limits of conventional musical instruments. Member of several ensembles, he also collaborates with artists from all horizons.
During his residency at Fonderie Darling, Tom Jacques wishes to pursue his most recent research in musical composition with the medium of air through his project Chsfsfssttpsch. Integrating more rudimentary tools such as breath or flutes, he also used more complex and automated devices, such as 7 small mismatched organs, scattered accordion windchests, a series of modified calls activated by solenoids, a drum set modified to produce bird sounds, and more.
