Justin Weiler

As part of this Accès Libre residency, Fonderie Darling has teamed up with Galerie Nicolas Robert, where Justin Weiler will present his first solo exhibition across the Atlantic in September.

In a proposal that is neither abstract nor realistic, the glass used by Justin Weiler becomes pictorial visual supports, forms inspired by interior architecture, from different points of view. Through his works, planes develop in strata by superimposing several sheets of glass, like filters that mark out space, delimiting without closing. The glass becomes a diffusion screen, a veritable boundary that creates cuts in image and space, like so many interfaces and walls in dialogue with surroundings and architectures. This is a banal space, transformed and sublimated by light to reveal the threshold that is omnipresent in Justin Weiler's work, a space of transition that materializes the passage between inside and outside.

Justin Weiler's practice constantly challenges the pictorial plane and its notions of materiality and physicality. Using motifs and figures from the domestic and everyday life, such as awnings, shop windows, iron curtains, greenhouses and screens, his work questions the perception of light through color or black. With the idea of interior and exterior, they become the monochrome intermediaries of a visual surface, both support and window. Through empiricism, superimpositions and covering as a repetitive gesture, glass architectures or paintings in space generate paths that displace the frames of painting.
