Aria Maillot
Aria Maillot's artistic work combines painting and installation. She uses the metamorphic potential of organic matter to create paintings linked to intimate stories, in which the material becomes a narrative tool.
Drawing from her background as a cook, her current research focuses on food, its anthropology, and its transformations, whether natural or human-made. She appropriates symbols from the history of painting and physicochemical phenomena to link the transformations of matter and the evolutionary dynamics at play on both an individual and societal scale. The potential edibility and perishability of her works foster a digestive and sensitive intimacy with the viewer, inviting them to reflect on the human condition, nature, and our relationship with the living.
During her residency at Fonderie Darling, Aria explores the transformation that travel brings through her research into the changing nature of food. She plans to work with various local food materials, such as Camassia Quamash and maple water. Through ethnobotanical and culinary research, as well as encounters and journaling, she wishes to question her understanding of travel, explore its various stages, and investigate the physical, intimate, and societal transformations that occur, as a result.
