GUIDED TOURS OF SITES AND EXHIBITIONS
As a charitable organization recognized by the governments of Quebec and Canada for its work in educating the public about contemporary art, Fonderie Darling's role is to develop the general public's curiosity, sensitivity, and knowledge of contemporary visual art by encouraging them to experience and appreciate current, exploratory and committed artistic practices. Fonderie Darling provides groups from all walks of life with the opportunity to participate in a personalized guided tour led by the curator or the tour guide.
The goal is to offer an in-depth presentation of the exhibition's content, with complementary information adapted to the knowledge and demands of the visitor group, depending on the context. The interactive tours encourage discussion and questioning and are designed to help visitors develop tools for appreciating the works, rather than imposing knowledge about them.
ARTIST STUDIO TOURS
For each exhibition opening, the artists in residence at Fonderie Darling in the adjoining building are invited to open the doors of their studios to the public. Prior booking is also required for personalized studio tours for small groups of art professionals, students, and business people.
During studio visits, artists are paid to present their work. This is a unique opportunity to enter each artist's creative world, to become aware of their workplaces, and to better understand art by discovering the processes involved in creating a work, from concept to completion.
PUBLIC EVENTS AND CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Throughout the year, Fonderie Darling presents many free events, including performances, exhibition talks, and conversations between artists in international residencies and the general public.
Fonderie Darling also organizes occasional creative workshops with the artists in residence. These workshops are aimed at young audiences and are carried out in partnership with specialized organizations such as Fusion Jeunesse and Dans La Rue, or as part of school visits with groups. Before the event, the artist prepares a session based on his or her work and the specific group he or she will be hosting, and the group then carries out the workshop under the supervision of the artist and Fonderie Darling's director.
* Cancellation requests for guided tours of artists' studios must be received by the public manager at least 48 hours before the tour date to be cancelled free of charge. After this deadline, a $50 fee will still be charged and returned to the artist for the cancelled studio visit.
