Quartier Éphémère and Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop are thrilled to announce the artists selected for the 2024 Darling Newhaven Residency Exchange: Émilie Allard from Quebec and Kirsty Russell from Scotland. This exchange program, now in its second year, fosters cultural and knowledge exchange between artists and organizations from Quebec and Scotland.
This exchange not only provides artists with the space and resources to explore and develop their practices but also fosters connections between two vibrant artistic communities across continents.

Émilie Allard
Émilie Allard is an artist and poet with a background in graphic design (Université du Québec à Montréal, 2015) and sculpture (Concordia University, 2023). Her work, both individual and collaborative, has been showcased in numerous venues including Centre Clark and Arsenal art contemporain, in Montreal. As a poet, she has been featured in Radio-Canada's 2018 poetry competition and has published two works with Le Lézard Amoureux. Allard will engage with the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and the broader Scottish arts community, bringing her unique interdisciplinary perspective to the residency.
Kirsty Russell
Aberdeen-based Kirsty Russell focuses on themes of care and support in her work, reflecting on the emotional and physical labor inherent in these roles, inspired by the women in her family. Her recent exhibitions include Practising Bodies at Cubitt Gallery and Platform: 2021 at Edinburgh Art Festival. Russell has participated in alternative learning programs like Syllabus IV and has been a resident at Talbot Rice Gallery, University of Edinburgh. During her residency, Russell will explore new dimensions of her practice in Quebec, engaging with the local community and the arts scene.

This residency exchange is part of a three-year program that connects artists and organizations from Quebec and Scotland. The program aims to facilitate a rich cultural and knowledge exchange, providing artists with unique opportunities to develop new work and engage with diverse artistic communities.

Quartier Éphémère is the non-profit organization in charge of Fonderie Darling, in Montreal, and Gare de Matapédia, in Gaspésie. . It supports contemporary art through exhibitions, artist studios, and international residencies. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW)
Located in Newhaven, north Edinburgh, ESW is a center dedicated to the production, research, and engagement in visual arts. With 37 years of experience, ESW provides essential resources such as workshops, studios, and the U.K.'s only open access foundry, supporting the development of artists and their careers.
