Bodies at Play III

* IN CASE OF RAIN, THE EVENT WILL BE POSTPONED TO FRIDAY, AUGUST 15

Fonderie Darling and Corridor Culturel are joining forces for Moments Corridor, a series of artistic and cultural events that will enliven the Sud-Ouest neighbourhood throughout the summer and fall of 2025.

Sailing between exhaustion and resistance, these two performances explore the tensions between body, work, voice and pain, blending sound textures and precise gestures. karen elaine spencer and Vicky Mettler weave a score for a voice that studies lamentation, a vocal material in which murmurs, complaints, and silences deconstruct the taboo of mourning, turning it into a song of remembrance and persistence. Echoing this, Camille Huang's Puncture and Pull unfolds a tactile choreography in which gestures, objects and sounds question the link between the gendered body and the repetitive mechanics of industrial work, in a poetic dialogue between couture and nature. Two contrasting yet complementary worlds exist between fragility and power.

SNACK WITCH / SNACK TOUR: YOU x SNACK WITCH

The participant will be provided with a postcard featuring a map of local shops and stops offering delicious refreshments, along with a $20 snack budget. They will then disperse to purchase their desired treats and reconvene with their fresh goodies. While enjoying their (long-time or new) favourites in good company, the group will host a space to share personal connections to the foods they've brought together.

The first 10 individuals to RSVP at education@fonderiedarling.org will receive a $20 snack budget. Anyone joining without an RSVP or after the first 10 spots are filled is still very welcome to participate — they will simply need to cover the cost of their snacks.

KAREN ELAINE SPENCER & VICKY METTLER / a score for a voice studying lamentation

karen elaine spencer and Vicky Mettler perform the vocal tapestry that is a score for a voice studying lamentation. Defying the taboo of public grief, the two artists layer whispers, wails, and silence to erupt with an explosive energy.

CAMILLE HUANG / Puncture and Pull

Puncture and Pull is an inquiry into contact between the gendered body and the 'puncture and pull' of the sewing machine. Objects, sound and dance converge to explore attributions surrounding repetition, touch, machinery and its parts. Looking into the body's relation to gendered labour and industry, the performer inhabits gestures in an open choreographic exploration outside of Fonderie Darling's Place Publique. Describing the motion of a sewing needle, "puncture and pull" also has an unlikely convergence with the predatory chewing mechanism of some animals.
