Laurie Hauff

Laurie's sculptures explore the body and its various envelopes, questioning the porosity between art forms, environments, and the energies that flow within them.

The practice of bondage allows her to explore the polysemic dimension of connections and attachment. The expression “to bond”, which simultaneously means “to attach oneself to”, or “to tie oneself to”, refers to different levels of interpretation, challenging the conventional understanding of attachment. Like a cocoon in which the bodies of the worms are simultaneously formed and dismantled, Laurie seeks to approach the tipping points at which form mutates into formlessness, stability shifts into instability, and safe space into danger...

Photography plays a central role in her practice. The artist aims to create a sculpture through her perspective, using the least amount of time and resources. These photographs thus serve as preparatory work, foreshadowing her sculptural works. As part of her residency at Fonderie Darling, Laurie intends to further her research around her Phalènes project, which intertwines themes of fire, butterflies, and her practice of rope bondage within site-specific and performative installations.
