Sun Li Lian Obwegeser

Sun Li Lian Obwegeser expresses a deep connection to materials that show traces of time and use and often draws inspiration from her Malaysian roots. Nature is a constant source of inspiration, as she goes on excursions to collect materials and photograph details of the landscape. She explores the relationship between human-made and natural environments and how they are interconnected and blend. Her process incorporates various media, often converging in site-specific installations. In her most recent work, she attempts to integrate craft techniques from diverse regions into her artistic practice and experiments with drawing techniques. This process evolves continuously through her experiences of travel and cultural discovery.

In her recent practice, she has focused on Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, which fascinates her for its ability to create small, meaningful environments with minimal materials. She is particularly interested in how societies integrate nature into urban landscapes. Through site-specific Flower arrangements, she intends to explore futuristic and dystopian landscapes that reimagine the role of nature in a technologically advanced and ecologically challenged future world.
