H3C Neighbors Evening

Neighbors, come celebrate the summer!

Once again this year, the Darling Foundry wishes to affirm the role of art and of a friendly and dynamic public space, in harmony with its neighborhood. This last evening, the event is entirely dedicated to neighbors who work or live in the area, to celebrate the summer together on the Place Publique. For this occasion, a carte blanche is offered to Cercle Carré and l'Esperluette housing co-ops, who will offer a program of poetic readings as an artistic take-up of the claimed spaces.

6PM:  Conversation with Ayọ Akínwándé

To begin the evening, Ayọ Akínwándé will lead a discussion on the work accomplished at the Place Publique Residency 2019, in response to the specific context of Ottawa Street. To close his three months of research and production in Montreal, the artist returns to his two-fold work: a semi-permanent sculptural and sound installation, The People’s Parliament, and a performance of Mumu LP Vol 2: The Orchestra, presented on August 8th.

Ayọ Akínwándé’s practice is multi-disciplinary, experimenting with lens-based media, installation, sculpture, performance, and sound to explore concepts of identity, duality and the multi-faceted layers of the human reality. His artistic process involves constant monologues and dialogues on socio-political realities in his environment.

7PM: Carte Blanche to housing cooperatives Cercle Carré and l'Esperluette - En attendant sa chute II

With the participation of poets Joséphine Bacon, Nelly Desmarais, Virginie Fournier, Kama La Mackerel, Mariève Maréchal, Noémie Pomerleau-Cloutier, Mathieu Renaud and Maude Veilleux.

Divide and rule, the law of the jungle that continues and makes us the losers. Only a few brilliantly dispersed slogans could have imposed it: our individualized voices, walls of twigs, the sole protection of bricks, asphalt and high speculative forces of an invisible authority. In the absence of a successful business plan, we will impose ourselves in blurring territorial boundaries, resistances, and poetry as the only possible reasoning.

You are invited to participate in a poetic refusal in the heart of a claimed space. An artistic revival as a deconstruction of neo-liberal mechanical rhetoric that makes a surface intelligence profitable. Away from the industrial opportunities of our creativity, away from artificial logics, let poetry arise within us and dismantle the rest.

UNTIL 10PM: Free access to our exhibitions, Diving for Dreams by Barbara Steinman and 9.8 Mètres par seconde par seconde by Pascale Théorêt-Groulx.

Throughout the evening, explore the future by traveling through Wonwoo Lee’s Time Machine, listen to the music of Tomb Thumb and enjoy local craft beers by the 4 Origines microbrewery* and delicious tacos by Café Cantina.

*A free drink is offered to residents and workers of the neighborhood upon presentation of proof-of-residence or a business card.
