Québec-Acadie Residencies

After establishing ties with Gaspesian communities, Quartier Éphémère is renewing its residency offer and extends its reach to the Maritimes by associating its activities with two other New Brunswick art centres. 

As the Matapédia train station is located at a border point between two provinces, this cross-residency project between New Brunswick and Quebec follows on from the Montreal-Matapédia Residencies. The Québec-Acadie residency program aims to strengthen ties between Canada's French-speaking communities, while showcasing Acadian culture and fostering closer ties between the two provinces' art scenes through collaboration between artist-run centers and residency spaces. 

Moncton's Galerie Sans Nom and the recently opened Projet Borgitte in Cap-Pelé join the adventure, acting as host venues for the artists. These on-site partners make it possible to imagine a residency that extends as much in New Brunswick's cultural capital as on the seashore, facing Prince Edward Island. Artists from Quebec and New Brunswick are invited to apply for one or more of the five residencies of different formats, which are based on reciprocity and unfold as follows:

HOST LOCATIONS

In Montreal, artists are housed at Fonderie Darling, a visual arts centre in a former industrial complex that combines two buildings, one dedicated to exhibitions, the other to artists' studios and residencies. Artists have access to technical and logistical support, plus a production workshop.

In Gaspésie, at Gare de Matapédia, artists have access to daily technical and logistical support, as well as access to production workshops, local resources and meetings with artists and artisans.

In Moncton, artistic and logistical support will be provided by Galerie Sans Nom, and artists will be able to contribute to public activities at Galerie d’art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen. Galerie Sans Nom's mandate is to present contemporary art in all its forms, from a professional perspective. Galerie d'art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen is a key institution dedicated to the visual arts of Eastern Canada's French-speaking community. Its mandate is to promote Acadian art around the world, while presenting contemporary Canadian programming.

At Cap-Pelé, artists are in residency at Projet Borgitte, a new space for creation and reflection, away from the hustle of the city, in a magnificent seafront site. An important aspect from its mission is to foster artists from different disciplines and backgrounds.
