Transatlantic Residencies France-Canada

Wishing to stimulate exchanges between France and Quebec, three Franco-Quebec institutions have joined forces to continue the Transatlantic Residency program. For a second year, Montpellier Contemporain MO.COl’isdaT – institut supérieur des arts et du design de Toulouse, and Quartier Éphémère, the organization managing Fonderie Darling and the Gare de Matapédia - Pôle artistique et communautaire, are organizing a two-part program of crossed residencies, one dedicated to French artists and the other to Quebec curators.

As part of the Résidences Transatlantiques program, two emerging artists who have graduated from partner institutions MO.CO Esba (École supérieure des beaux-arts de Montpellier) and isdaT will benefit from a three-month creative residency in Quebec, including a stay at Fonderie Darling, a visual arts center in Montreal, and a two-week visit to the Gare de Matapédia in Gaspésie. The second part of the Transatlantic Program invites a curator from Quebec for a two-month research residency in France, divided between the cities of Paris, Montpellier and Toulouse.

RESIDENCY IN FRANCE FOR CURATORS BASED IN QUEBEC
March 1 - April 30, 2025

The Transatlantic Residencies offer a Quebec curator the opportunity to take a critical look at contemporary art during a research and networking residency. The residency offers a unique opportunity to broaden one's knowledge of the French artistic and cultural scene, to introduce artists from Canada and Quebec in return, and to develop broader professional relationships between the different art scenes in the metropolitan area.

For this two-month residency in France, the curator will be invited to spend one month in Occitanie and one month in Patris, in a furnished room with an integrated workspace.

The selected curator will spend a month in March in the heart of the French capital, in a former heritage convent, the Couvent des Récollets, now an international center for artistic exchange, with the support of the City of Paris and in association with the Canadian Cultural Center and Trampoline, an association supporting the French art scene.

The residency then continues with a residency in Occitanie, a highly cultural region, for the whole month of March. The selected curator will spend 15 days in Toulouse at isdaT - Institut Supérieur des Arts et du Design de Toulouse, and 15 days in Montpellier at MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain (an innovative multi-site facility combining the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier and two art centers, MO.CO. and MO.CO. Panacée).

A personnalised program is offered by the partners of the project on both territories, according to the curatorial research project. The residency also presents a privileged opportunity for the two Occitanie art schools to encourage encounters between the curator, students and recently graduated artists. The laureate will also benefit from support and a personalized networking program, enabling them to optimize their adaptation and inclusion in the French and international cultural scene.

The two-month residency in Occitanie and Paris includes:

• Round-trip airfare for a maximum amount of $1150 CAD
• Accommodation in Paris, Montpellier and Toulouse for two months
• A stipend of $5250 CAD
• An overall per diem of $1150 CAD
• Personalized support, networking and promotional program

*Please note that these conditions are subject to funding and may be revised.
